ESPOO ARTISTS’ GUILD – SCHEME
21.3.-25.4.
The Espoo Artists’ Guild is bringing a collection of works by 30 artists to the Imatra Art Museum, consisting of numerous works on paper. The individual works are based on ordinary A4-sized paper, which emphasizes the schematic nature of the execution, but in a reverse way also the richness of the works’ ideas. The works use a variety of different techniques, such as painting, drawing, collage, sculpture, video and installation.
The exhibition explores the theme of patterns based on art history. Artists interpret patterns in their works and make them visible. A visual ensemble has been created for the museum, in which old art creates a foundation for the new. At the same time, the recurring nature of history, recognisability and the canon of contemporary art are discussed.
In the artistic process, a formula can be twofold. On the one hand, it can be an important platform and on the other hand, an opportunity for the formation of something new. A formula can be a guideline, a manner, it can produce a sense of security or form norms. The opposite of a formula can be seen as chaos. When does a formula change or lose its recognizability? Is a formula something that moves forward, or is it an obstacle to development?
The Espoo Artists’ Guild is an association of professional artists from Espoo, founded in 2009, which organizes art exhibitions, seminars and other activities related to visual arts. The Artists’ Guild has 52 members from various fields of visual arts.
